Gordon first started composing tunes for his band back in 1989 and through the years has established himself as one of Scottish Dance Music’s most prolific Composers. Many of his tunes have been recorded on BBC Radio Scotland’s “Take The Floor” sessions and various artists have also included his compositions on CD recordings. His vast range of compositions vary from Traditional Scottish Dance music , French Musette,Ballads and tunes that would equally be at home in any Folk musicians repertoire.
His tunes have also been used as part of the curriculum at many of Scotland’s top accordion and fiddle festivals including the recent All Scotland Championships held in 2017 when the dance band section had to include his compositions.
In 2007 Gordon released his first book of own Compositions titled “The Force is Strong” and due to demand has just released his 2nd volume of Original Compositions titled “Bridge The Gap” as many of his tunes bridge the gap between the style of Traditional Scottish Dance music and Contemporary Folk tunes. One of Gordon’s recent highlights was when the BBC commissioned his band to record a full Take The Floor session of his own compositions which was aired on BBC Radio Scotland on 3rd March 2018.
A mix of compositions that would suit not just the dance band player but there is something there for everybody. Tunes for box, fiddle, pipes… they’re all there.
There are tunes for mixed abilities too, from simple sweet airs to finger twisting reels.
Phil Cunningham, 2010
He continually comes up with fresh, well-constructed melodies that are absolutely true to the style of music which they represent.
Keith Dickson, 2018
It is such an honour to have a tune composed for us by a musician that is so creative and exciting in his approach to traditional music.
Daniel Gillespie (Skerryvore), 2018
